University Policy 1131, Motorized Utility Vehicles (MUVs), establishes the standards for safe use and operation of MUVs (e.g., golf carts). Department heads are responsible for ensuring individuals operating MUVs for their department have read policy 1131 and signed the Motorized Utility Vehicle Policy Acknowledgement Form, which includes verification of a valid driver’s license.
Operational Risk Management offers training for anyone who operates a MUV/golf cart on campus. Initial training should be completed within 60 days of hire and repeated every two (2) years. The objectives of the course are to:
- Gain knowledge of the policies and procedures that apply to operating a golf cart for state business and the main cause of risk involving cart operations.
- Gain knowledge of safety guidelines for properly operating golf carts to minimize incidents and accidents.
- Understand how to report an incident or accident.
